Shane Talks Love (named by Shane West Online)
Pop Star! March 2002

Popstar!: How are you and your character similar and how are you different?
Shane: We're very similar in the sense that we're kind of laid back, a little sarcastic, and I guess we're similar in more ways than I thought because we both come from a divorced family. But what is different is that he's a little blinded in the beginning of the movie. He's grown up with all of these kids in a small town and he basically makes fun of what he fears--the unknown--which includes Mandy's character at first. I've never been that way, so that would be one of our differences.

Pop Star: Jamie and Landon's romance seems unlikely in the beginning--do you think there is *ever* a right time to fall in love?
Shane: I kind of go by the motto of it's always the right time for everything. It could be not exactly what you expected. I have learned from my past if you're feeling feelings such as love and things you don't normally feel for someone, you can't let it go. I think you need to include it and find a way to do both. In the end, you're running away from your heart--which doesn't make sense. You have to be true to yourself.

What's the best way to mend a broken heart?
Shane: Lots of candy? I don't know! [Laughs] I think hanging out with friends is one of the most important things. Maybe family, too, so they can do their best to cheer you up. And just try to do things. What I've done when I've gotten out of relationships where I've been upset or depressed, I just do whatever my next thing is, not necessarily a relationship but work, I focus more on that. I try to get more things done. When I'm in love and have someone in my life like that, it's hard for me to get anything done. I don't want to do anything! Bills are hanging around all over the place. The one thing you can do is, when it's over, get on with your life.
